Why We Did the Topics We Did For Infographics

Now some may ask, if we are a site about online schooling and our goal is to educate, why are our infographics often regarding quirky, or even at times racy, topics such as beards, online dating and pizza? Good question.

We at online schools do not feel that education is only about “reading, writing and arithmetic.” Education is much broader than that. Wikipedia defines education “in the largest sense” to be “any act or experience that has a formative effect on the mind, character or physical ability of an individual.” So education is dreaming dreams, smelling flowers, and flying a kite. It is also growing a beard, dating online, and even eating pizza.

Furthermore, education requires a two-way communication between the educator and the student. The educator can only teach the student what the student is willing to learn. And it is easiest to start any educational process by teaching the student those things in which the student has already demonstrated an interest. In fact, the word education comes from the Latin e-ducere, meaning “to lead out.” And Socrates, the Greek philosopher, argued that education was about drawing out what was already within the student. Thus, we at Online Schools followed this ancient wisdom in starting our educational process by creating infographics on topics that we believed our viewers would be most interested in.

But, this was only a start. By whetting people’s appetite for learning in general, we hope that the hunger will grow within and cause people to expand their learning horizons to learn about a wide array of topics in every field imaginable using every means possible.
