Procrastination? Break the bad habit with these 5 helpful tips.

Putting tasks off until the last moment is a terrible habit to have. It is only amplified when attending an online school because most often you don’t have the luxury of extra time on your side. So it’s vital for you to set good habits, and take advantage of our 5 helpful tips for you to break that procrastination habit, and stay on top of your learning.

  1. Set a schedule. You know how you work, and how much time you need to complete a task, so set aside time accordingly. This allows you to at least give you enough time to finish, but if you finish early, then that’s a bonus.
  2. Stick to the schedule. Setting a schedule in the beginning is excellent, but once the initial thrill of creating a schedule wears off, it is quite easy to fall into the procrastination mode. So stick to the schedule you made, and your time will be spent wisely.
  3. Stay away from distractions. You’re spending time going to school online, in the comforts of your own home. There are so many distractions around the house that can lead you away from studying. So isolate yourself in your classroom, and you’ll spend less time thinking about watching TV and more time absorbing the information you’re reading.
  4. Break the “I’ll do it later” attitude. Too many times we think that if an assignment is due in a week, and we have nothing to do at the moment, that we can put it off till later because we feel we have that same amount of free time in the next few days. And almost 100% of the time, that is never the case, as situations always arise closer to the deadline that takes up all of the time, and leaves none for working on the assignment. So don’t fall into the “I’ll do it later” trap, and work on assignments when you can.
  5. Be diligent. You’re paying to go to school, online or not, so be diligent in that regard. Be eager to learn, and be ready to absorb that information. So when you sit down in your chair and get online, be ready and willing to stay there for the next several hours as you attend class.
