Government is the entity that controls a specific state such as a local or national state. A more common definition refers to the group that governs over a sovereign country, like the American government. Governments often have a hierarchical structure and multiple types of administrators like elected representatives or appointed leaders. The common types of government include authoritarian, communism, republic, democracy and monarchy. Throughout the years governments expanded their roles to provide more than keeping the order and protect properties such as formation of armies and improving social welfare.
