Biographies tell the story of an individual’s life, frequently told in the form of a book or movie. Because the biography is based on real events the genre is considered non-fiction. A common form of the biography is the autobiography where the person’s story is recalled and written by the same person. Major parts of the person’s life are told such as family, relationships, schooling and work life. Authors also comment on their story, emphasizing certain events that affected them the most in life. The modern form of the biography appeared in the late 18th century.
