Fossils
Fossils are the remains of an organism. Usually a fossil refers to the preserved remains, such as the skeleton bones of vertebrates or exoskeletons of invertebrates. The remains of a specimen have to be older than a certain date, normally 10000 years or older, before it is considered a fossil. Organisms produce a wide range of fossil sizes ranging from microscopic remains to gigantic bones from a dinosaur that weigh tons. Scientists who study fossils and their relationships to other organisms are called paleontologists. See these videos below to learn more about fossils.
