Baker College Online has a "right to try" open admission policy for undergraduate students. Students should have a high school diploma or the equivalent. If they do not, they may still be admitted on the basis of ASSET test results. Baker does not, however, require any entrance exams such as the SAT. In addition, Baker has some specific guidelines based on the programs offered that students should inquire about from an admissions advisor.
Master's degree candidates need a bachelor degree with at least a 2.5 GPA, a resume showing three years of relevant work experience, and three letters of recommendation. Students must also write and submit an essay detailing their reasons for application to the program in which they desire to be admitted.
For the doctorate program, a minimum 3.25 GPA in an MBA or related master's degree from an accredited US school is required as a prerequisite.
International students must either have completed a bachelor's or master's degree at a university where classes are taught in English, or they must score well on the Test of English as a Foreign Language.
Five Features that Make Baker Stand Apart
- Career Success. Baker aims to prepare its students for successful careers by gearing its classes and degrees toward growing industries. And, indeed, Baker seems to be successful in doing so, because 97% of their graduates are currently employed.
- Thorough Orientation. Baker takes the guess-work out of online education. All Baker Online students begin their education with a three-week online class designed to orient them to the Baker Online classroom, and also review the expectations and requirements of Baker Online students. Only upon successful completion of this course can students move on to additional courses.
- Balance of Structure and Autonomy. Baker tries to balance structure and autonomy in its online education system. In terms of structure, courses are offered on a quarterly schedule, with specific start and end dates and assigned deadlines for coursework. Students are also required to log on and participate in discussions five times a week. But, understanding that most online students have time limitations, the courses Baker offers are asynchronous, so students can work on their assignments at any place and at any time of the day.
- Career Services. All students at Baker are eligible for guidance from Career Services' employment coordinators. Graduates of Baker College are also eligible to use the Employment Services the College offers, including:
- Job searching techniques
