Accreditation

In 2009, AIU sought and received accreditation by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association to award Associate's, Bachelor's, and Master's degrees.

AIU was previously regionally accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools from 1987 - 2009.

Admission

AIU Online does not use standardized test scores or GPAs to determine undergraduate enrollment. To be considered for admission, first-time students and transfer applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

• Submit a complete application and $50 application fee
• Submit a high school diploma or its equivalent
• Participate in an admission interview
• Provide proof of English proficiency if English is not the student's first language

In addition to meeting the above requirements, students applying to AIU Online's master programs must also have a bachelor's degree with a GPA of 2.0 or higher.

Five Features that Make AIU Stand Apart

1. One-on-One Tutoring. SU offers online tutoring sessions with AIU Online faculty members conducted live in real-time. These sessions are offered to students at no extra cost.
2. Online Learning Labs. Another feature that is unique to AIU is its online learning labs, which are supplemental study sessions, available to students in several different subject areas. They are specially designed to enhance students' classroom performance at no additional costs. Each learning labs is designed and facilitated by an AIU Online faculty member. Students may participate in as many sessions as they wish and can repeat the labs as desired.
3. Open Enrollment. AIU is an open enrollment institution in which little to no weight is given to a student's performance prior to admission at AIU. AIU believes that open standards help create educational opportunities for low-income and minority students who might not otherwise be able to attend college.
4. AIU Online's Flexible Scheduling Plan. American InterContinental University's Flexible Scheduling Plan (FSP) allows students to quickly graduate with an industry-current Associate degree. FSP a flexible course-scheduling model designed to meet the needs of career-focused professionals who have real-world responsibilities. Through FSP, students can either accelerate their learning, or slow it down, depending on their particular needs.
5. Interactive Learning Model. AIU's online courses follow an interactive learning model. Through AIU's Virtual Campus, students are able to view fascinating lectures and course content via rich multimedia presentations.
