The Cold War
Although there was no official combat, the Cold War (1947-1991) refers to an era of political and military unrest between the USA and the Soviet Union. The Cold War began immediately after the end of WWII when the two countries conflicted on political and economic policies of restoring Europe back to normal. America focused on preserving capitalism and the Soviets wanted to expand communism. A rivalry began that involved instances of espionage, political unrest, proxy wars and even technological competition such as racing to the Moon. After facing near economic collapse and pressures from American President Reagan, the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991, ending the Cold War. Watch the videos below for a look into the Cold War.
