Oceans
71% of the Earth’s surface is covered by oceans, which are defined as a major body of salt water. There are four major oceans, articulated by continents and archipelagos. The four are the Pacific Ocean, Arctic Ocean, Atlantic Ocean and Indian Ocean. In these oceans scientists estimate there are over 200,000 known life forms but this number could be up to 10 times higher. Oceans affect our climate by transferring heat in the air. A common belief that oceans are blue because of the sky is actually not true. When water molecules absorb the red photos from light, they are seen blue.
