Mountains
A mountain is defined as any natural elevation of the Earth’s surface above the surrounding level that is notable over the neighboring elevation. This is a flexible definition but a mountain is generally anything with a height base over 1000-2500 meters. Mountains are created from the movement of lithospheric plates as rock is pushed upward above adjacent land. The major types of mountains are fault-block, dome, volcanic, fold, dome and plateau mountains. Only 10% of humanity lives in mountain areas because the weather is more hazardous and there is less oxygen than on areas of lower elevation. See the videos below to learn more about mountains.
